Qld Government’s New Policy on Strategic Cropping Land

The government has announced a new policy direction for strategic cropping land and is developing a comprehensive planning framework to implement this policy direction.  The Queensland Government considers that the best cropping land, defined as strategic cropping land, is a finite resource that must be conserved and managed for the longer term.  The new policy will ensure that planning and approval powers protect strategic cropping land from those developments that lead to its permanent alienation or diminished productivity.

The proposed planning framework will consist of four elements; mapping strategic cropping land, establishing a new statutory planning instrument, amend resources sector legislation and creating guidelines for development assessment.
